The book “Enfermagem em Endoscopia Digestiva e Respiratória” [Digestive and Respiratory Endoscopy Nursing], by Maria da Graça Silva, is already on its second edition and has been used as a reference for theory and practice of the endoscopic procedures for nurses since its launching, in November 2010. The publication counts on WEM Equipamentos contribution, which is in charge of the creation of chapter 11 (page 89), entitled “Unidades Eletrocirúrgicas” [Electrosurgical Units], focused on the principles, advantages, safety, and care to be taken regarding electrosurgery in endoscopic surgeries.

Edson Vieira, WEM's director, Nicholas Vieira and Guilherme Leite, professionals that work or have already worked in the company, as well as Prof. Alexandre Hermini, expert in the electrosurgery field, have collaborated in the development and writing of  this chapter contents. In addition to the basis and practices of monopolar and bipolar electrosurgery, coagulation, desiccation, fulguration, and cutting, the content also covers concepts of safety on the use of electrosurgical units and application of patient plate.

According to Maria da Graça, Technical Coordinator Nurse of Endoscopy Service of the Gastroenterology Department of HC-FMUSP, Expert on Endoscopy, Master in Surgical Center and Public Health, the book aims at fulfilling the great gap present on medical literature on this theme. The author of this publication is also President of SOBEEG - Sociedade Brasileira de Enfermagem em Endoscopia Gastrointestinal [Brazilian Society of Digestive Nursing Endoscopy] and President of ASIEG - Associação Iberoamericana de Enfermagem em Endoscopia Gastrointestinal [Ibero-american Association of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Nursing].
