The first edition of the Ambassador program in Brazil took place from December 2nd to December 7th, in Manaus (AM). SOBED – Brazilian Society of Digestive Endoscopy – and ASGE – American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy carried out the event, which presented, free of charge, new endoscopy methods for the physicians from the northern region of the country.

With WEM sponsorship, Ambassador had theoretical and practical activities, some of which using WEM equipment, such as the SS 601MCA + Argon 4 and two sets of the endoscopy electrosurgical system. “We participated in many activities, performing more than 100 examinations in patients from Hospital Estadual Adriano Jorge [Adriano Jorge State Hospital], in Manaus, for three days”, explains José Mário Conterato, WEM clinical engineer who was present at the event.

The training was carried out with physicians from Amazonas, Tocantins, Roraima and some cities of the Northeast region. The teams involved diagnosed several illnesses on the treated patients, among them cases of morbid obesity and stomach lesions.

With its start in 2010, Ambassador is an international program that aims to bring endoscopy knowledge and procedures to professionals from regions with little or no access to technologies. Its main objective is to qualify endoscopists to perform medium specialty procedures. The initiative has already been in Egypt, Ecuador, Solomon Islands, Taiwan and Vietnam, with good acceptance and obtained results.
